75th Anniversary USAF

The United States Air Force is 75!

On September 18, 1947, President Truman signed The National Security Act of 1947, establishing the US Air Force as an independent service (formerly a branch of the US Army).

Growing up in Rapid City, we all have an appreciation of the USAF as an important institution and for Ellsworth Air Force Base as an important part of our community. We salute them both on the 75 year anniversary of the United States Air Force!

  • Consider a visit to the South Dakota Air & Space Museum 2890 Davis Drive, Bldg 5208 Ellsworth AFB:

From the South Dakota Air & Space Museum website:

Recommended Time: 3 Hours

At the South Dakota Air & Space Museum, visitors can walk through the history of aviation. They have over 30 vintage military aircrafts on display that range from World War II bombers up to the B-1 that is used today. Marvel in the size and innovation that takes place over the years as you tour both the indoor and outdoor exhibits of the educational and captivating museum.

  • One of our classmates, Craig Willan, produced a very interesting 13 minute historical film entitled Pay any Price. The film is a tribute to a local WW II US Air Force bomb crew. It is the story of Captain Eddie Brodsky and his B-24 bomber crew who were shot down over France on May 11, 1944. We hope you will take a few minutes to view -- the film is well done, intriguing, and educational. Congratulations to Craig on this award-winning film and thank you for sharing it with all of us.
